How I contributed to the Howlings
In November 2007 the editor of Scarlet Imprint asked me to give an essay on Goetia for a forthcoming book. I naturally agreed, not having any idea what to write. However, the Goetia had other ideas, and once I wrote the first few pages, things started to happen. For me, the Goetic Experience have never been magical or occult – neither have I invoked, nor have I evoked. I have never performed a ritual for their appearance, not have I prepared tools for the torture of spirits if they do not comply – I am sure you have read the literature.
Goetia or Jinn?
For me, the Goetia, or Jinn as they are properly known, are powerful aspects to the Mystical Experience. In the Koran, they seem in relationship to the Prophet Mohammed, so it is quite possible that they too have a function in prophecy. My understanding is that the Goetia are around us all the time – we just have to see. My contention also is that they appear around the world, and they are known by other names. In the Islamic countries they are named the Jinn. As far as the origins of ‘Goetia’ as howling is concerned, since the literary origins are found in the Koran, it may be that ‘howlings’ relates to the Islamic Call to Prayer as heard by medieval westerners.
Many times objects would move, disappear or reappear – it was rarely worth commenting up at the time. This power is associated with the Goetia, and my understanding is that it is to do with the spiritualising force that enters matter, causing an energy jump.
Over the last few weeks, I have contemplated publishing the Howlings essay on my website, and once I made my mind up, the Goetia appeared to me again and again in stronger visions. Clearly there is a message in the writings that they want more people to see.
The Howlings edition was limited to 333 copies, and naturally it sold out on the launch day, so the chances of others reading about the Goetia is very limited. I hope you enjoy this essay.
